Prof. Medge D Owen

Medge D Owen is a Professor of Obstetric Anesthesia and Director of Maternal and Infant Global Health Programs at Wake Forest School of Medicine. Dr Owen was a Fulbright Scholar to Turkey in 1997-99 and is the founder and president of Kybele, Inc. (www.kybeleworldwide.org), a non-profit organization to improve maternal and newborn safety worldwide through innovative educational partnerships. To date 350 physicians, nurses and educators have traveled from over 60 institutions in the US, Canada, UK and Australia to work in 9 countries. Country specific strategies have led to sustained improvements in healthcare. As an academician, Dr. Owen has published numerous articles in clinical and basic science and co-authored a textbook in Turkey. She sits on the obstetric committee of the World Federation Societies of Anesthesia and other national committees related to global health. She has been an invited lecturer around the world to address inequities in maternal and newborn global health.

Prof. Stephan A Schug

Stephan A Schug is a German trained specialist anaesthetist with an MD in pharmacology.

He is Professor and Chair of Anaesthesiology in Pharmacology at the University of Western Australia and Director of Pain Medicine at Royal Perth Hospital. Prof Schug is currently Visiting Professor at the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care of University of Muenster in Germany.

Prof. Schuh has research interests in the pharmacology of analgesics and local anaesthetics, the management of acute, chronic and cancer pain, regional anaesthesia and analgesia, organisational structures for pain management and reduction of adverse events in hospitals.
